A tale as rich as chocolate, as clever as Ananse…
The trucks came at dawn.
Engines growled softly as sacks were loaded, one by one, bound for the road. Ananse watched carefully, counting.
“This batch will go far,” he said.
One sack remained.
He nudged it with his foot. It did not move.
“This one too,” he insisted.
An elder shook his head.
“No.”
Ananse frowned. “Why not?”
The elder lifted the sack and set it beside a cooking fire instead.
That afternoon, cocoa was roasted locally — the smell rich, deep, unmistakable. The beans were ground slowly, mixed with water, thickened, shared.
Ananse tasted it.
It was not refined. Not polished.
But it was full.
“Ɛdɔɔso,” someone said quietly. It is enough.
Ananse looked back at the road where dust still lingered.
For once, nothing followed.
Had Ananse learned that value doesn’t always travel?
What does success look like when it stays?
And who decides what is meant to leave — and what is meant to remain?
Well… that is a story for another time.
